Don’t Let Your Driveway Floor Become an Eyesore

The approach to your home says a lot about you as it is one of the first things that the visitor will see when he or she arrives outside. You should not let this first impression be a bad one, but should ensure that it is in as good condition as possible. You want your home to look as good as possible and the driveway floor represents a big part of the picture the people see from the street. If it is badly stained you should think about resurfacing.

Have you ever noticed that the driveway floor can often look very ragged and sorry for itself? This is a consequence of many years of misuse. For example, a previous owner could have been a do-it-yourself fanatic and conducted all his work outside. Other owners may have parked their vehicles overnight for an extended period of time and oil leaks may have resulted. We do not all take as much care over our possessions, unfortunately.

You may be lucky to have purchased a home from a caring previous owner or to be in possession of a brand-new property. If your driveway floor is in excellent condition you should make sure that it stays that way. If you do happen to park cars outside for any period of time, make sure that an absorbent pad is placed beneath. These pads will absorb any oil stains which will result from such activity and note that if you have an older vehicle, this is far more likely to be the case.

Never let your garage become so full of junk that you cannot park the vehicles that you have within. It looks much nicer from the street if you don’t have cars in your drive and this will also help to avoid your driveway floor surface becoming stained, causing you to put hours of backbreaking work into cleaning it in future.

If your driveway floor is very badly damaged, you will likely have to consider concrete stain work. This is a very significant job, as the acid stain will only works correctly if the surface is prepared accordingly. In addition, you need to be very careful that you do not get the stain on any other surfaces as it will not come out.

Acid staining takes a lot of preparation and the first thing that you need to do is to undergo a thorough cleaning. Once this has been allowed to dry, find any cracks or blemishes and make sure that you fix them using concrete products. It is all in the preparation if you want to have a perfect finished result and if you don’t fix the blemishes, they will be highlighted once you stain them.

Oil stains, dirt or grease can be the enemy of concrete staining and you must ensure that you remove any such marks before you start. Don’t worry too much if the hash chemical cleaners that you use leave a blemish themselves, as the concrete stain will cover this residual effect.

Concrete stain needs to be applied to your driveway floor when you know that the weather is going to allow you to work unhindered. Do not choose an overly hot and sunny day and make sure that you check the weather forecast first to see that you will have no rain for the entire period, or the drying time required afterwards.
